Psychomotoric Therapist
A further training course at the Weber-School
Psychomotoric therapists work in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. They work with people of all age groups (predominantly children) who have sensation and/or movement disorders.

1. Vocational training
This part-time course takes two years and starts after the Northrhine-Westfalia summer holidays. After the exam you will be a "Staatlich anerkannte Motopädin" / "Staatlich anerkannter Motopäde" (state-approved Psychomotor Therapist).

2. Entry requirements
Requirements for in-service training:
- professional training (e.g. educator, gymnastics teacher, elementary school teacher or
- degree in an occupation (health care, welfare) and occupational qualification (in sports, dance, rhythmic or psychomotoric) and a one-year professional experience.

3. Course content
Psychomotoric Therapists are mainly responsible for
- body and movement oriented therapy and aid for people of all age groups
- psychomotor diagnostics before and during treatment
- planning, implementing and evaluating educational and treatment processes
- a repertoire of various sensomotoric, psychomotoric and sociomotoric games and exercises

4. Subjects
- Motoric therapy (sensomotor, sociomotor and psychomotor theory; rhythm; relaxation techniques)
- Diagnosis of motoric dysfunction
- Pathology of motoric dysfunction
- Learning Theory and Teaching Methods in Motor Therapy
- Education and Psychology
- Special Needs Education
- Project Work: guided motor-therapy practice
Comprehensive theoretical and practical teaching is supplemented by practical experience in the form of a work placement which stretches over several lessons. This includes supervised application of the acquired knowledge and skills.

5. Career opportunities
General health awareness has risen over the last few years, just as the need of psychomotoric help, mainly for pre-school children and senior citizens. The acquired knowledge and skills can of course also be applied in the traditional areas such as child care facilities and primary schools.
Other facilities where psychomotor expertise can be applied are
- social and remedial educational centres
- pre-school and school facilities
- educational and leisure facilities
- advice and support centres
- clinical facilities and hospitals with specialised departments

6. Cost
Eighty-seven percent of the cost will be met by the Northrhine-Westfalian government. For the remaining 13% we need a contribution from our students amounting to € 80,- per month.
